Suggested Books for Year 3
Hopefully your child is becoming a more independent reader with all the practice they are getting. Some children will be able to read the books below by themselves and will be avid readers. Most will need your help and support by taking it in turns to read a paragraph/page each. You should aim to sit quietly with them for a longer period of time e.g. 20 minutes sharing the book together. Many parents find that they enjoy the stories as much as their child!
You will need to check their understanding of more complicated or unusual words and will also need to keep asking questions to check they are understanding the story. Once in a good routine, this could become a nice calming end to a busy day (much better than TV!) leaving your child ready to sleep and dream about what they have been reading.
If you are worried about your reading then please see our Family Support Officer, Lisa Almen, who might be able to help. To speak to her contact the school office (0116 2832328).
