Montrose School

Suggested Books for Year 2

At this age your child will still enjoy you reading aloud to them.  Make sure you ask them lots of questions about the story to encourage them to listen and think carefully about the book.  You should try and enjoy stories together as often as possible.  Don't forget to listen to them read aloud too from their school reading book (daily please!) which will be an appropriate ability for them.

If they are a reluctant reader then persevere by reading to them so they can enjoy listening to stories.  Lots of praise and repetition is the key to becoming an independent reader and eventually they will succeed.  Please talk to their teacher if you have any concerns.

If you are not a good reader then please see our Family Support Officer, Lisa Almen, who might be able to help.  To speak to her contact the school office (0116 2832328).
